In the middle of a successful career as an agricultural economist and animal nutritionist, Richard Stadlwieser, accepted a position with CUSO. In Laos, he was placed as a national government advisor and worked on district projects.
It was an important time to be there. “I felt the world would shift to the Asia Pacific region, and I was a firm believer in working with areas and communities of the world where governance transition was underway. I thought Lao did this very well—at the time, they were leading in using market mechanisms to help develop their economy and enhance the Lao peoples quality of life”.
Later, he expanded his knowledge of Asian agricultural markets by working as a long-term technical advisor with Agriteam Canada in China. His experience collaborating with partners in Asia has proven extremely useful in the work he has done since within the Canadian private sector and government environment.
As the Executive Director for Access to Capital with the Government of Alberta, part of his role has been to work with Alberta Companies to attract investment develop opportunities Asia, Europe, and the world, which helps Alberta and Canada build a prosperous and sustainable future.
