Peter Gillespie joined CUSO in the early 1980s as a volunteer and spent four years working in Botswana. It was there that he met and married his wife.
Over his 30-year career, Peter worked with anti-poverty organizations, human rights groups and pro-democracy movements in Asia and Africa. His work with the ethnic nationalities of Burma (Myanmar) was recognized, and he played an instrumental role in promoting support in Canada for refugees and displaced people from that country.
Peter Gillespie went into the jungles to meet with displaced people and share their stories in writing and with officials and politicians.
