Imran Arshad, of Ottawa, was a Cuso International volunteer economic research facilitator for three years. His primary role was teaching economics and research methodologies to researchers at the National Economic Research Institute in Vientiane.

“My placement taught me about the importance of taking the time to build strong relationships and understand the broader context before taking meaningful action. This lesson has stayed with me after my placement” said Imran.

Imran currently works with Policy Horizons Canada which supports policy development by the Government of Canada. He was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 in recognition of his leadership skills. He also received an award for Distinguished Service to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, presented by the Government of Laos in June 2003 following his Cuso International placement.
