Enriching children’s lives in Jamaica changed Christine French’s life back in Canada. Volunteering through Cuso International, Christine worked with the YMCA in Kingston on sustainability planning for ongoing social services in the community.
“Working with the boys who attend the YMCA’s Youth Development Program was the highlight of my time in Jamaica. Thanks to special project funding from Cuso International, I had the privilege of running a week-long robotics camp where a group of 20 students were given the chance to build their own robots. The chance to excel at something that captivated their hearts and minds was a huge thrill. It was magical to see how positive reinforcement, learner-centric education, and healthy food transformed them—the change was almost immediate.”
After extending her stay in Jamaica, thanks to a partnership between her employer and Cuso International, Christine returned to Canada to help make the B.C. government’s real estate portfolio more sustainable.
