Bob Masterson’s life’s work has been to take the best of Canadian knowledge and share it with the world. An engineer by training, Bob and his wife Mariana Southwood were VSO Canada volunteers in Nigeria from 1994 to 97.
Bob returned to Canada and did a Master’s in environmental public policy. As a climate change consultant in the early 2000s, he worked with countries such as Grenada and Nigeria to set up their plans to meet their obligations under the United Nation’s Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Bob joined the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) in 2010 as its Vice-President for Responsible Care. Developed in Canada in 1985, this global initiative is the chemical industry’s commitment to sustainability in 62 countries. Bob took on the task of updating Responsible Care for the 21st Century and now, as President of the CIAC, promotes the best of what Canada has learned in sustainability, successes and missteps, to the rest of the world.
