2013 – 2014
In 2013, Asia served as a Youth Entrepreneurship Advisor with Dominica Youth Business Trust in Roseau, Dominica. A young entrepreneur and artisan herself, Asia developed and facilitated workshops in business development, micro-finance and business plan writing.
Asia’s father immigrated from Dominica to Canada as a child in the 1960s; during her placement, Asia discovered she was surrounded by family members she had never met! Although Asia had not visited to Dominica, she says she felt at home as soon as she arrived.
Now based in Toronto, Asia spends her days mentoring young entrepreneurs; her free time is devoted to Wild Moon Jewelry, where she crafts wearable art that connects Asia’s ancestral African and Caribbean roots. She also offers jewelry making workshops for youth through non-profit organizations in Toronto.
In 2015, Asia was recognized as a Global Changemaker Youth Ambassador, an honour that recognized her contribution to social justice and international development. Her work through Wild Moon Jewelry has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council and the United National Association in Canada Green Corps Program.
