One hundred and fifty years of Canadian Confederation has seen many achievements. Canada has spearheaded global movements in peacekeeping, the environment and the effort to end the use of landmines. One of Canada’s greatest achievements is the support it provides to the world through its skilled volunteers. For more than 57 years, Cuso International has supported partners, communities and families as they build better lives.
Volunteering abroad with Cuso International has had an impact on the lives of alumni long after returning from their service. Over the years, Cuso International volunteer placements have been the catalyst for some of our country’s leading activists, business leaders and public servants to inspire other Canadians to volunteer, give and make a difference.
The Canada 150 Volunteers alumni celebration recognizes the contribution that Cuso International alumni have made in Canada and around the world.
We acknowledge that the recognition of Canada 150 does not accurately reflect the complete history of this country. We must acknowledge that there is Indigenous history in this land that predates colonialization and Confederation. Cuso International has undertaken new projects with Indigenous partners in Canada, allowing us to better understand the devastating effects of colonialization and to be a part of reconciliation efforts in this country. We thank our Indigenous partners for allowing us to work with them and our volunteers for taking on these special assignments.
